Understanding Solar Eclipses:
It is vital to always use proper eye protection.
Partial Solar Eclipse: In a partial solar eclipse, the moon covers only a portion of the sun, creating a crescent shape. Even during a partial eclipse, the sun's rays can cause eye damage if viewed directly.
Total Solar Eclipse: During a total solar eclipse, the moon completely obscures the sun, casting a shadow on Earth and revealing the sun's corona. Viewing the total eclipse without eye protection is safe only during the brief period of totality. However, proper eye protection is necessary before and after totality to prevent eye damage.
